colorful & summery scenes

Country Living UK July 2007

previous two photos from Joanna Henderson

Though in no particular grouping or arrangement, I liked these vignettes because they capture the summer feel. The past few days in London have not been so summery, but today seems like a turnaround! I love laid-back and relaxed sunny rooms that look like they could have come from a country home. (top three photos from UK Country Living, fourth photo from Living Etc.)

The last three photos were from the April/May issue of Lonny magazine, from Deborah Lloyd's home in upstate New York- that was my favorite feature in this issue!

Delightful home of Marina Coriasco

I have been loving these photos of stylist Marina Coriasco's home, shown in Elle Interior (Norway) in December 2008. About that living room- I never have thought I could live in a loft-like open area, because unless you are a sparse decorator, it might tend to look messy. But here, I think she's achieved a good division of the space, with the areas being well-defined, yet everything blends visually without chaos. It looks livable to me.

The details in the bedroom are also lovely. I only wish there were more of these so we could further explore her home. These are taken by the talented photographer, Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer.

Swedish designers' home: Elle Interior

Swedish designers Cilla Ramnke and Carl Fredrik Holtermann have an interesting aesthetic on display in their home. It feels quite individual with their collection of unique furniture (like the plaid sofa) and objects. I love the glossy yellow doors that open into the living room- don't know that I'd be that brave but it looks fabulous. These designers have a shop full of mixed media art and handmade things called Studio Laila, in Stockholm. (photos by Pia Ulin, courtesy of February 2008 Elle Interiör)

Photo/ food inspiration: Mikkel Vang/ Gourmet

Mikkel Vang's photos are not new to the blogging world, but I was inspired to find out about this photographer after this month's (January) issue of Gourmet magazine, which was all about Southern cooking (and one of my favorite Southern cooks and authors, the late Edna Lewis). This brunch, in particular, looked so good I was almost moved to try to re-create it.
